Travelport GDS Appoints Damiano Sabatino as Regional General Manager for Southern Europe

Langley, UK, 10.12.2008

Travelport GDS, one of the world’s leading global distribution system (GDS) providers, operating both the Galileo and Worldspan platforms, has today named Damiano Sabatino as its new regional general manager for Southern Europe with responsibility for leading the company’s business operations in Italy, Israel and Greece. The appointment, which takes place with immediate effect, follows the decision by current job holder, Marco Benincasa, to leave the company at the end of the year to pursue his own business interests.

Sabatino, who was previously Italy’s chief executive officer for Datatrack – a leading provider in GPS and GPRS based tracking devices - will report into Matthew Hall, Travelport GDS’s vice president for supplier services and business development in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Before joining Datatrak, Sabatino held a number of senior commercial roles in high profile organisations including SITA (a system integrator and telecommunications provider for the air transport community), Motorola and TIM Mobile.

“Marco has made a significant contribution during the five years he has been with the business and has successfully developed Travelport GDS into a major force in the Italian, Israeli and Greek marketplaces. I would like to thank him for this and also wish him much success in his future endeavours,” said Matthew Hall, vice president supplier services and business development, Travelport GDS.

“We are delighted to have been able to recruit such a high calibre successor to the role and feel confident that Damiano’s extensive and very relevant knowledge and experience coupled with his customer centric approach will take the Travelport business from strength to strength in this region,” added Hall.

Sabatino, who is to be based in the company’s Rome office, commented, “Travelport is a dynamic organisation which is well know in this region for the role it has played in reshaping the travel distribution landscape. I am delighted to now have the opportunity to build upon the complementary strengths of the Galileo and Worldspan systems and lead the GDS evolution in Southern Europe.”
