UK Intern Charity Blog

November 15, 2017

We wanted to update you on our charity venture so far and what we have come up with!

This year we (UK Travelport Interns) have been given a target of raising £15,000 for two of our chosen charities. You may gasp at the target – we definitely did! It is going to be a challenge, but we are determined to make a real difference for two amazing charities!

The charities that we have chosen are CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) and Samaritans of Slough, Windsor, and Maidenhead.

CRY is a London based charity which focuses on combating cardiac diseases which take the lives of 12 young people per week in the UK. Cardiac deaths are sudden and happen without any symptoms, putting everyone who has not been screened at risk! We have chosen this charity because we think we can make an impact by raising awareness and funds to further their research.

Samaritans of Slough, Windsor, and Maidenhead are a localised version of the national charity itself. Samaritans is a mental health charity that raises awareness through working in local schools and advertising through various media. They provide fantastic support through their helpline and offer sound advice to those who need it the most.

What have we done so far?

We kicked off our fundraising to a healthy start… A Smoothie Sale! From Berries to Bananas, we had a blast! Our Travelport employees loved the opportunity to buy a freshly made smoothie from us at our canteen.

At Halloween, we lifted spirits with our delicious Halloween Bake Sale! We saw some spooky sweets and treats thanks to all the amazing donations from our fellow Travelport employees.

We then kicked off the football season with a Barclay’s Premier League Predictor Competition, giving people the opportunity to pick their top 10 teams with a chance of winning some amazing prizes!

These amazing events and the lovely donations we have received has enabled us to raise £1,173 so far! We never thought we would be in such an amazing position going into 2018… However, we aren’t done yet!

What have we got planned?

SANTA RUN!

On 3rd December, 10 of us interns are partaking in a 10K Santa Run in central London! We will be dressed in Santa outfits, running alongside thousands of other amazing fundraisers.

Please help us get closer to our target by donating to our Virgin Money Giving page, with the reference “SANTA RUN”

We need your support so we can get merry, with Santa Hats on, and prance past the finish line!
