As an Employment Legal Counsel at Travelport, you can thrive in the exciting world of Travel Tech.

You will come on board at a truly exciting time, and as a member of the in-house legal team you will play a pivotal and crucial part in advicing the UK and other European countries in general employment law and litigation.

This role will involve:

  • Provide legal advice and support to HR and business leaders on a wide range of employment legal issues.
  • Support HR professionals on complex grievance, disciplinary, performance and dismissal processes as well as early negotiation of potential employee disputes and settlement agreements
  • Manage a range of contentious and non-contentious employment law matters including mergers and acquisitions, business protection matters (e.g. restrictive covenants), terminations and redundancies, the use of contingent workers, change programmes, TUPE transfers, hiring including executive hires, employee rewards, and mergers and acquisitions.
  • Provide strategic litigation support on employment tribunal claims
  • Advise, draft and negotiate employment related aspects of client matters including employment contracts, settlement agreements, master service agreements and tenders as well as employee on-boarding requirements
  • Provide employment law input into Travelport policies and projects, including CSR programme, employee data protection, apprenticeship and internship programme, gender pay gap reporting and the use of contingent workers
  • Provide legal advice and implement necessary legislative changes (e.g. due to Brexit)
  • Educate and provide employment law training for HR professionals in the UK and other regions
  • Manage internal and external legal spend to ensure that costs are controlled
  • Analyse, draft, and negotiate customer, supplier and employee legal agreements and contracts
  • Provide clear, accurate guidance to HR and business leaders on contracts, legal risks and other legal authorities
  • Ensure contract and agreement review, approval, and execution adheres to corporate and HR policies

You:

  • A UK qualified lawyer, 5-6 years PQE
  • Experience of managing employment legal issues, either in private practice or in-house, in the UK, with additional experience in European and other regional matters preferred
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders on sensitive matters; regional experience and language skills (specifically European countries) will be an advantage
  • Case management skills in relation to Employment Tribunal proceedings
  • Knowledge and experience of negotiating settlement agreements
  • Experience of providing clear written advice to senior managers and HR professionals, identifying the impact of legislative changes for an organisation and advising upon important developments in case law
  • Ability to work as part of an effective multidisciplinary team but within a small specialist unit
  • Experience in or exposure to European employment law issues, as well as the rest of the world would be a distinct advantage
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with drafting and negotiation experience
  • Ability to provide practical legal advice and support with a high degree of professionalism in a fast-paced environment and to establish a high degree of credibility, respect and trust at all levels
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and interact effectively with senior leaders and clients at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to translate complex legal and compliance requirements into workable solutions for the business and have had previous experience of influencing internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability and dedication to promote equality, diversity and human rights in working practices
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision as manager is based in the US
  • Experience in technology and/or travel industries would be an advantage
