ATLANTA – October 11, 2018: Travelport (NYSE:TVPT), the leading travel commerce platform, today announced it has appointed Luis Carlos Vargas da Silva as Regional Director of its Latin America (LATAM) region.
Vargas assumes the permanent role of LATAM Regional Director for Travelport, upon successfully serving as the interim Vice President and General Manager for Latin America during the past 18 months. Since joining Travelport over six years ago, he has played an integral role in expanding operations in Brazil and across the Latin American region, where he has led initiatives to diversify Travelport’s customer base and cultivate key partnerships with local technology companies incremental to business and revenue growth.
Prior to leading the company’s Latin American region, he joined Travelport as Brazil Country General Manager in 2012. Vargas brings more than 25 years of strategic management experience in the travel industry to his role, having held leadership positions in global companies such as International Air Transport Association (IATA), TACA Airlines, Qantas Airways, British Airways, Iberia and Varig.
In his new role, Vargas is charged with driving the growth of Travelport connected agencies in the region in both the business and leisure space, leading the Travelport teams across 8 countries and growing Travelport’s strategic footprint through new partnerships and content acquisition. He will be based in São Paulo, Brazil, where he lives with his family. Most recently, Vargas was named one of Brazil’s 100 Most Powerful Influencers in Tourism alongside executives from Delta Airlines, Marriott and Locates Hertz at the ABAV International Tourism Expo in Brazil that was held in late September 2018.
